Brazil introduced new requirements for access to abortion for rape victims on Friday, an important change being the obligation of medical personnel to propose to women to see the embryo or fetus by ultrasound, reports AFP.
The woman who wants to have an abortion will also have to “tell in detail” what happened and will be warned that she runs the risk of trouble in court if she cannot prove what she said, writes agerpres.ro.

Rape will also be reported to the police by complaint, whether the woman wants it or not.
Brazil, a country led by far-right president Jair Bolsonaro and where conservative Catholic and evangelical churches have great power, allows abortion only in cases of rape, endangering the life of a woman or serious congenital problems of the fetus.

But these exceptions are hardly accepted by the religious right.
The new rules were issued by the Health Ministry after protests in early August over the case of a 10-year-old girl who said she was raped by her uncle and whose authorities in her home state, Espírito Santo, denied her an abortion. . .

She eventually flew to the northeastern city of Recife, where she was able to have an abortion, but was forced to pass the hospital in a violent far-right demonstration.
The identity of the girl and the hospital was conveyed to the protesters by far-right activist Sara Winter, a strong defender of Bolsonaro, who is linked to the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves, a pastor evangelical.

Advocates for abortion immediately denounced the new restrictions.
“We have presented a bill to block this decree, which is an obstacle to legal abortion and is an act of psychological violence against women,” wrote left-wing MP Jandira Feghali on Twitter.
