The coordinator of the vaccination campaign in Romania, the military doctor Valeriu Gheorghiță, says that protection measures – the mask and physical distance – should be observed even after the aanti-COVID vaccine.
Asked Sunday night on Digi 24 if a person who will be vaccinated against COVID will still have to wear a protective mask, the military doctor said that these measures must be observed until the moment of mass immunization.
“Definitely yes. Until we reach a level of herd immunization, we must not compromise compliance with preventive measures. But at some point these measures will be easily, easily withdrawn when the threshold is reached.” At the same time, if we limit ourselves to prevention only, without a vaccination strategy, we will not be able to end this pandemic in a reasonable future, ”said the doctor.
What categories of people will not be vaccinated?
The coordinator of the vaccination campaign also said that young people under 18 years of age and patients with severe and terminal chronic diseases will not be immunized, as there are no clear studies on these age groups carried out by companies that develop a vaccine against COVID-19. .
Currently, only one company has included people between 12 and 18 years old in the studies, so we certainly will not talk about vaccination for those under 18 years, at least in the next period, and also in clinical trials it has not been included to no person who had chronic diseases that were decompensated in terms of therapy, so patients who were unstable, I mean a patient with advanced cancer (…) These categories were not included in clinical trials because in the first place, they were he wanted to include the categories of people who did not have chronic diseases by various age categories, to which they were added later, having behind an already oriented safety profile, categories of people who have chronic diseases were also added ”, added Valeriu Gheorghiţă.
“In the happiest case”, the first doses of the COVID vaccine will arrive in Romania at the end of December, according to the doctor.
