Dr. Dragoș Romanescu, Senior Surgeon at the Healing Center for Excellence in Liver Diseases, gave an interview to DC News and DC Medical. Numerous topics were addressed, mainly talking about the indications for liver resections and the management of the patient after these interventions.
At the beginning of the interview, Dragoș Romanescu spoke about the role of the liver in the body. “The liver is a noble organ, which has many functions in the body, the most important of which are: the function of protein synthesis, those in charge of repairing injuries in the body, and the detoxification function, being a true filter of the body, being the headquarters mainly for the metabolism of the main toxic substances, drugs, alcohol. We could say that the liver reflects the health of the body. In other words, anything we do wrong in our lifestyle affects liver function.“Explained Dragoș Romanescu.
Excess food, stress
„In liver disease we talk about excesses: excess food, excess alcohol, physical and mental stress and, last but not least, hepatitis B, C and D infections.“Said the doctor, adding later:” Diet is a major risk factor in the development of steatotic liver, that is, non-alcoholic fatty liver. A very common condition, for example, in Western Europe. The incidence of steatotic liver cases increased with increasing incidence of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and patients with dyslipidemia. To avoid this danger, people must lose weight with a proper diet this time and exercise. ”
“It seems like a simple desideratum, but in our society, dominated by sedentary lifestyle and diets rich in carbohydrates and fats, it is very difficult to achieve,” said the doctor.
He also stated that “exaggeration in one way or another leads to disorders, even in the liver and so many metabolic diseases occur.”
He later said, “What we know for sure is that hepatic steatosis leads to cirrhosis of the liver, which is a risk factor for liver cancer.”
