George Simion, co-chair of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians party, is not the first candidate, it is the first time that he has managed to cross the electoral threshold, and still in a spectacular way. He also ran unsuccessfully in the 2010 European elections. His biography is rife with controversial actions, and his wealth statement is a blank sheet of paper.
George Simion is 34 years old and was born in Focșani. He graduated from Gheorghe Lazăr College in Bucharest, attended the Faculty of Management and Business at the University of Bucharest, then did a master’s degree at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi, during 2008-2010, specializing in “Crimes of Communism” , according to the biography published on Wikipedia.
In 2006 he began to become a civic asset, organizing in Bucharest a protest for the support of Romanian students from the “Gheorghe Asachi” secondary school in Chisinau.
In 2012, he organized a commemorative march in Chisinau dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Annexation of Bessarabia by the Tsarist Empire, a march that was attended by 7,000 people.
Much of its activity is related to the Republic of Moldova; in fact, one of the main points of AUR is the union. His actions in the Prut also imposed a ban on him from entering the Republic of Moldova.
George Simion was declared an undesirable person on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, having five entry bans on the territory of this state. The last one was applied in 2018, for a period of five years.
In 2019, George Simion independently stood for the European elections, under the motto “Greater Romania in Europe”. It obtained 1.21%. After this failure, also in 2019, he founded the Alliance for the Union of Romanians party.
Declaration of wealth: a car and a salary
At 34, George Simion is a politician with extremely limited material resources. The fortune statement filed for the parliamentary elections shows that Simion does not own any houses, land, jewelry, valuables, and bank accounts.
His only fortune is a car – 2006 Ford Fiesta – and an income from a marketing director in a construction company – 38,322 lei, which would translate into a salary of just over 3,000 lei per month.
