A vaccine against the new coronavirus could be approved in about a year in the most “optimistic” scenario, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said Thursday, Reuters reports.
With sustained global efforts to develop a vaccine, the European Union, which has been hit hard by COVID-19, fears it may not have enough reserves, especially if a vaccine is developed in the United States or China. .
The European Medicines Agency, which is linked to 33 developers, is doing its best to speed up the approval process, said Marco Cavaleri, director of vaccines for EMA, who was skeptical that a vaccine could be ready by September, reports Agerpres.

“For vaccines, because development has to start from scratch … we could see it from an optimistic perspective, within a year, in early 2021,” he told reporters.
The EMA official ruled out the possibility of skipping the third phase of the tests, saying it was necessary to convince them that the vaccine was safe and effective.
The European Medicines Agency is also considering 115 different treatments for COVID-19, a disease that has caused nearly 300,000 deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.
Marco Cavaleri said that some of these treatments could be approved in Europe as early as this summer, but did not specify which treatments.
