Florin Bărbăscu, the stepfather of gymnast Cătălina Ponor, was brought under judicial control following an incident in which he was involved on March 6, when he allegedly struck two local policemen from Constanța. He was charged with outrage. Following the incident, surveillance camera footage emerged showing another variant of the incident.
On March 6, Florin Bărbăscu wanted to enter the street that led to the gym he owns, only that access to that street was allowed only for residents. The former rugby player assures that he was arrested by the local police to whom he tried to explain that he wants to go to the gym and show them the documents that prove that he is a resident.
The images captured by the surveillance cameras show that the man showed them the documents on his mobile phone. Florin Bărbăscu invited the two policemen to the scene to show them the original documents, but it seems they refused.
Meanwhile, the discussion degenerated, and Catalina Ponor’s father did not want to be touched by the two agents and tried to enter the room. The local police tried their best to detain him, but to no avail.
Also in the surveillance cameras, it can be seen that a few minutes away, several policemen arrived at the scene and then handcuffed him at the reception of the living room.
Initially, the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Constanza decided to arrest the champion’s father, but later they reversed the decision and decided to remain under judicial control for 60 days.
According to a statement, the investigators established that “on March 6, around 9 am, BF beat two local policemen who were trying to immobilize him, after previously refusing to identify themselves, while he was trying to enter the gym located at Gheorghe Dima street no. 2. The policemen were transferred to the hospital and both required 3 to 4 days of medical attention ”.
