The new social context determined by the Covid-19 crisis has brought changes in the housing interest of Romanians, so that the demand for the purchase of houses increased by more than 50% in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, according to an analysis carried out by the network of franchised real estate offices, RE / MAX Romania.
Romanians ignore the pandemic and buy houses
The state of emergency, respectively social isolation, represented the trigger for these changes and, according to our information, the trend will continue. Considering the evolution of the pandemic and the threat of a new confinement situation, but also the easy access to credit, we consider that the demand for housing, both urban and adjacent to large cities, will increase in the next period, said Răzvan Cuc, President of RE / MAX Romania.
According to RE / MAX representatives, In the third quarter of this year, there was an increase in demand of 54.3% in this type of property compared to the same period in 2019. At the same time, the demand for housing increased by around 125% in the months after the state of emergency, respectively June-September 2020 compared to the period January-March 2020, percentages registered cumulatively in the sales and rental segments .
Where the majority of housing applications have been registered
Most of the applications were registered in the country’s big cities, with a strong real estate market, the three main ones being Bucharest, Cluj and Brasov. Among the main selection criteria required by potential buyers or tenants are mainly in this order: built area, land area, location and price, mentioned in the press release.
At the same time, specialists also noted the increased interest in larger apartments, especially those with generous terraces or gardens. Overall, apartment demand increased 17.5% in the third quarter of this year, compared to the third quarter of 2019.
