The first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will arrive this Monday at vaccination centers in the United States, after the United States Drug Administration (FDA) authorized its use. The Agency also lists the side effects reported so far. The FDA has licensed the vaccine for use in the United States for people 16 years of age and older.

In a document posted on the Drug Agency website, Americans are urged to announce before getting vaccinated if they have allergies, fever, have received another COVID vaccine or, in the case of women, if they are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The document also lists the side effects that have been reported with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine:

  • injection site pain
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • Muscle pain
  • cold
  • fever
  • joint pain
  • swelling at the injection site
  • the injection area turns red
  • nausea
  • Feeling sick
  • swollen lymph nodes

There is also a very low chance that the vaccine will cause a severe allergic reaction, according to the document. If it happens, this usually happens a few minutes, up to an hour after the injection. Symptoms of a severe reaction are:

  • labored breathing
  • swelling of the face and neck
  • incrise of cardiac frecuency
  • irritations throughout the body
  • dizziness and weakness

They don’t necessarily occur because of the vaccine, the FDA says, showing that the vaccine is still under study and clinical trials.

Those with severe allergies should call the emergency number or go to the nearest hospital, the FDA said.

Vaccination against COVID is not mandatory in the United States, and those who refuse to be vaccinated will receive the same medical services as before, the FDA said.
