What additional information does Iohannis have about Covid-19? They are hidden between the ranks.

On this occasion, the leader of the Cotroceni Palace stressed that “renewed hatred is the scourge of our time.”

In addition, the head of state indicated that the dreaded infectious disease Covid-19 has triggered a global health crisis, but also a crisis of mistrust.

According to Iohannis, all this was generated by the spread of fake news and conspiracy theories, but also by all kinds of hate messages, Eurosceptic and xenophobic speeches, manipulation and exacerbation of anti-Semitism.

Message from Iohannis

In a National Holocaust Remembrance Day message, Klaus Iohannis said:

“Today we pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust and honor the survivors, strongly condemning these atrocities that have forever mutilated our history.

On behalf of all Romanians, I strongly affirm that we will never forget the innocent victims and we also promise not to allow such a tragedy to happen again.

But desire is never enough to prevent evil. The fact of not remembering history as it was has sad consequences. “

What does the president dislike?

Continuing with his statement, the President of Romania indicated that in our country there is still much to do in terms of recovering the memory of the Holocaust.

One of the darkest aspects of this issue that has so tragically marked the history of humanity is related to certain image campaigns, as the head of state has hinted.

“Unfortunately, although Romania has made extraordinary progress in recovering the memory of the Holocaust, for years we have witnessed the grotesque public rehabilitation campaigns of sinister figures from the black past, people of culture, politicians or the military who, through his ideas and deeds, led to the humiliation, ridicule and murder of others.

Those who want to erase the Holocaust from history, as well as those who try to exonerate criminals, are complicit in this terrible evil.

We will never stop condemning those who sowed hatred and committed crimes and we will never silently bow our heads to evil, “Iohannis said in his message.

The example of Traian Popovici

The Cotroceni Palace leader also mentioned that the mayor of Chernivtsi, Traian Popovici, witnessed the deportation of Romanian Jews from Bucovina in October 1941, showing that the mayor saved thousands of Jews from death.

“It was a genocide of unimaginable proportions. There is no greater risk of weakening democracy than passive acceptance of all these diseases of the contemporary world.

In the face of such dangers, the appeal to the unpolished past may be the opportunity to rediscover the eternal European values: tolerance, respect for diversity, responsibility.

Let us not fall into the trap of ignorance, of populist discourses, let us not remain silent in the face of attempts to rewrite history and deny the truth.

Let us also remain vigilant and firm in the fight against anti-Semitism, intolerance, extremism and populism. The history of any nation is a collection of light and dark.

It is only up to us to be able to show future generations that Romania can no longer change history, but that the lessons of history have changed for the better, forever, Romania, “added Iohannis.
