The Interior Minister, Marcel Vela, assures that he remains “very attentive” to what is happening in the context of the recent scandals about possible fraud in local elections and announces that he will not tolerate “any deviation from the law.”
“I have been and continue to be very attentive to everything that happens in the context of these elections and, believe me, I will not tolerate any deviation from the law! My colleagues at the Home Office are still on duty. Although voters have already cast their votes, the election process is not over. We will be attentive to compliance with the law, so that this election faithfully and categorically reflects the will of Romanians as of September 27, ”says Vela.
Marcel Vela says that the desperation of “some candidates” should not lead to breaking the law.
“The desperation of some candidates to lose the mayoralty or the elections to the councils should not lead to the violation of the law, to electoral fraud. It is a matter of respect for the voters, knowing how to lose with dignity, ”Marcel Vela wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
He mentions that he has been in politics for more than 30 years, and when he ran, he lost or won, respecting the decision of the electorate.
“This means democracy, this means normality! I know that the resistance to change can be great, but this is the vote, it is the will of the generations that we have raised. In several localities and in sector 1, the vote count is required, in the face of fraud complaints. The sector 1 scandal was transferred to the Central Electoral Office, after PSD candidate Dan Tudorache demanded a recount of the votes.
For her part, Clotilde Armand announced that she will request the Attorney General’s Office to take charge of the investigation, after the Police opened a criminal case in rem.
