Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiță, coordinator of the national vaccination campaign against COVID-19, presented details of the vaccination strategy approved yesterday by the CSAT. There will be between 850 and 900 vaccination centers throughout the country, in addition to mobile caravans, and the goal is to vaccinate 13 million Romanians in 6 months, which would guarantee mass immunization.
“Vaccination is a right, not an obligation,” Gheorghiță said, adding that only vaccines authorized by the European Medicines Agency will be used in Romania, which will meet all safety and efficacy standards.
“The vaccination strategy in Romania is perfectly compatible with all the EU and WHO recommendations. The vaccination campaign and the communication campaign are in full compliance with all the EU recommendations. We have a duty to carry out an activity of transparent and honest communication and information so that all people have all the information to decide whether to get vaccinated or not, ”he said.
Gheorghiță specified that there will be three stages of the vaccination campaign. The first will be aimed at medical personnel and personnel working in the field of social assistance, in the second stage those who are in risk categories will be vaccinated – people over 65 years of age and with chronic diseases, more employed in activities essential. The third stage will be aimed at the general population.
Vaccination centers for medical personnel will be established at county and municipal hospitals. For the general population, there will be about 850-900 vaccination centers across the country. Gheorghiță said that the goal is that in each of these centers 5,000 people can be vaccinated per month, so that in 6 months, the number of Romanians vaccinated reaches 13 million. This would mean that 60-70% of the population would be vaccinated, which would guarantee herd immunity and, implicitly, return to normality.
“There will also be mobile caravans that will ensure the vaccination of people with limited access to vaccination, such as those in dormitories, as well as other populations in certain locations, where it is difficult to travel. There will also be transit centers organized in large urban areas that serve the young and healthy population. The spaces will be identified with the idea of guaranteeing a flow as large as possible to guarantee the vaccination of a large number of people, in order to achieve a substantial limitation of the spread of the virus in Romania, “said Gheorghiţă.
He said there would be a single registry for people to get vaccinated. Appointments will be made electronically, by phone, and through family doctors. Gheorghiță specified that, at the time of scheduling, the scheduling of the second dose will be done automatically.
