Keenan was vaccinated at a hospital in Coventry (central England) at 0631 local time a week before her 91st birthday.
“It is a great privilege for me to be the first person to be vaccinated against Covid-19,” Keenan said.
“It is the best present for my day that I could wish for, because it means that I will be able to spend time with my family and friends on New Year’s Eve, after being alone most of the year,” she added.
The UK began administering the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine on Tuesday, becoming the first Western country to begin inoculating the population against Covid-19.
In the first week, about 800,000 doses will be available, since medical personnel, those in health centers and those over 80 years of age have priority.
