A loud explosion destroyed several apartments in a block of flats in the center of Galati. At least one person was seriously injured and some 40 people were evacuated from the four-story building. Firefighters and SMURD crews intervene at the scene.

The explosion took place on Thursday and was caused by a gas leak. At least one person needs medical attention, Mediafax reports.
The explosion caused significant damage, affecting several departments and common areas of the building. People living in the affected block took to the streets immediately after the explosion.
The noise produced by the explosion was so loud that other Galaţi people in the neighborhood thought it was an earthquake. After completing the rescue mission, the experts will check if the building’s resistance structure has resisted. Otherwise, those who live in the block will have to move to relatives or to the spaces provided by the City Council.
