Premier during the tragedy in Colectiv, Victor Ponta tells in a video message posted on Facebook how he found out about the news and why he resigned after a few days.

“It was a very, very long night, I was on the other side of the ocean, 15,000 km from Bucharest, when I received the news that something bad had happened. On the plane, across the ocean, I thought I had 5 days, I thought I had a week. I didn’t get there again, it was night. I’ve been receiving ever since, there are more victims, there are more victims. I once said to go to Bucharest, that I could really do something, ”says Ponta.

However, the former prime minister claims that the political battle had begun. “At least one man had to be responsible. He wanted to be that man. I was convinced that with my resignation things would start to change. It has been 5 years since that night. I know that for many others it may have been worse than for me, but I will remember it like that, the worst night, the longest night of my life, ”adds the former prime minister.

Ponta considers that he was right to resign then, claiming that his resignation did not change things, but stopped the change. In the end, he says that after 5 years nothing has changed.
