The shocking story of the young woman who met her parents at 26 years after her birth has traveled the world. Belle grew up in America and always wondered why she didn’t look like her blonde parents. When she was 8 years old, she was told that she had been adopted when she was just a baby. It was a huge shock to her, she admits now.

They told me that my last name was Barbu and that I was born in Romania to parents who did not love me. Confused and embarrassed, I kept this a secret from everyone, but the evil never went away.

At the age of 19, he broke off the relationship with his adoptive parents.

Belle says that before enrolling at Brigham Young University in Idaho to study Public Health, she had distanced herself from her adoptive parents, and in 2013 she completely broke off her relationship with them. But he never stopped wondering where it came from.

Then in July 2019, he came across a Facebook group that helps adopted Romanians find their families. Excited, she posted her age and last name there and was surprised to receive some responses almost immediately.

Sarah, the woman who ran the group, rarely recognized her last name and, 48 hours later, she had reached out to Belle’s 20-year-old brother Moses via social media. Sarah translated her messages and Belle learned that she had two more siblings: a sister, Simona, 33, and a brother, Florian, 29.

Later I found out that my biological mother, Margari, and my father, Zambila, lived near Rome. There was so much information, so fast, that I got dizzy!

Bell says that three weeks after talking to his siblings only through messages, with the help of Sarah, he finally managed to talk to his family. When he listened to his mother, with the help of a translator, he began to cry and soon everyone was crying.

This is how she learned that in October 1994, when she was born, the doctors told her parents that she was ill, without specifying why she was suffering. They were told that they had to keep her in the hospital and sent them home. When they returned to the hospital a few days later, they were told that the girl, who had just been born, had died. The parents were destroyed.

The girl’s mother kept apologizing and telling her that they had tried to find her and prayed every day. It wasn’t until she received the transcript of the discussion that Belle understood.

My family was extremely poor when my mother was pregnant with me. They lived in tents and made bricks for money, which was incredibly hard work.

When they left the hospital, devastated by my death, a nurse ran after them to tell them the truth, that their little girl had been kidnapped and sold. The parents used the last money they had to buy gas and went to every orphanage they could identify to try to find it. But the money ran out and after a year they had nowhere to go.

Belle learned from the Operation Underground Railroad charity that newborns are worth tens of thousands of dollars to smuggling gangs, who falsify birth certificates and sell babies to adoption agencies for adoptive parents to take.

The charity helped her and her newly discovered parents with DNA tests, which proved to be a family, and in November of last year Belle flew to Rome, where her parents had lived for 19 years, working as laborers.

When I went out to the patio and hugged my mother, it was the most euphoric feeling. I knew he was home. Through the translator, my mother told me that she never stopped hoping to see me again. That night I cried for hours and spent four days hugging my father and shaking hands with my mother. Their love for me was so strong and I felt a great connection to them.

Belle now tells her story at Operation Underground Railroad meetings. The global crisis caused by COVID and the fact that she does not have much money have made her unable to travel to Italy again. You want to do this as soon as you can.

“I may never know exactly what happened to me as a child, but I focus on the things I can do. Now I work with organizations, including Operation Underground Railroad, speaking from my experience.

I tell everyone who hears my story that they can help survivors of human trafficking by donating to charities and believing their stories, ”Belle concludes her story.
