Dacia Renault prepares a new seven-seater crossover model that appears to be a new version of the Logan MCV. Images of secret tests with the new Grand Duster, as the press called it, were captured by a tourist on the Transalpina on February 25.

Dacia has three new models ready for 2021: these are the new generations of Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway. They all borrow technology from Renault models, and the design lines are much more attractive, according to the trade press.

However, in parallel, the manufacturer of Mioveni is testing another model. It is a crossover model, which the specialized press called the Grand Duster.

It looks like a long seven-seater crossover, reminiscent of the Sandero or Logan MCV. It’s just that the whole design seems reinterpreted. The new model could be four and a half meters long, have greater ground clearance and the roof bars are similar to what we see on the new Sandero Stepway.

Images of the vehicle under test were captured in Transalpina on Thursday, February 25:

It looks like an SUV, but the surprise may be in terms of engines. It is very likely that it is not in the diesel version and hybrid engines could even appear, part of the technology already introduced in the Renault Clio, according to the international press that published several images.

Given that the new model seems to be closely related to the latest Dacia models, it will probably run on the same CMF-B platform as the Renault Clio, but adapted to the cost reduction formula defined by the Romanian brand. Power will be provided by well-known three-cylinder gasoline engines up to 100 horsepower.

The more powerful 1.3 TCe available in the Clio would be a better option for the new Dacia, given what appears to have a larger footprint, but we wouldn’t stop at offering the 130hp four-cylinder engine. A diesel is also highly unlikely, as Logan and Sandero now come without dCi. Hybridization will be implemented sooner or later, and this should add a bit of punch while reducing emissions.

It is worth mentioning that what we see in the images has nothing to do with the Dacia Bigster project, a concept already presented by Dacia.

Dacia Sandero was the third best-selling new car in the EU in January

In January, 840,000 new cars were sold in the EU, 26% less than a year ago, the weakest January since 1982. The best-selling car model was Toyota Yaris, followed by Peugeot 208 and Dacia Sandero, and sales of the Ford Puma model manufactured by Craiova increased by 72%. In January, the share of SUVs in the EU market reached a record level of 44%, while in January 2016 it was 26%, and two years later it was 33%, according to data from JATO.

January was special in that the usual Volkswagen Golf leader was just four at the top of best-selling cars, and Toyota Yaris was at one, with 18,000 units and a 3% increase. Dacia Sandero was in number three, with an advance of 13%, counting on the fact that a few months ago the new generation was launched. Models like Volkswagen T-Roc and Fiat Panda also entered the top 10.

The ranking will definitely change throughout the year.

The best-selling SUV was the Peugeot 2008, the most purchased luxury car was the Mercedes E-Class, and in the middle class, the BMW 3 Series outperformed the Passat and the C-Class. The Porsche 911 sells well.
