Several drivers in traffic intervened on Monday (October 26) evening to provide assistance to the victims of the terrible accident in the Podu Doamnei area, between the municipalities of Bârlad and Vaslui. Two cars collided head-on and a third hit the field more than a hundred meters from the road. Witnesses rushed to help the victims, but what they found at the scene marked them deeply.

The first ambulance had appeared in the area and removed the two children from the overturned car in the field: a 3-year-old girl and a 9-month-old baby. When witnesses reached the car area, both parents were covered in blood and the man, in a state of shock, was trying to wake his wife unconscious. They both had serious head injuries. Witnesses asked the driver what had happened, but he was completely devastated. He did not know where he was, how the tragedy happened. He did not remember where he came from or where he was going.

The medical personnel who arrived at the scene could not do anything to save the 3-year-old girl, despite resuscitation maneuvers. In the case of the 9-month-old baby, he was the only person among the six involved in the accident who was not injured. He was transferred to the Vaslui hospital, where, later, he was discharged and cared for by relatives. In the case of the mother, the doctors confirmed that she suffered a cervical fracture, and she was transferred to the Iasi Neurosurgery Hospital. The father remained admitted to the Vaslui hospital, in the Oral-Maxillofacial Section. The man had severe trauma to his face.

In the case of the other two cars, which collided on the road, one of the drivers, a 27-year-old man, was found dead. The other driver, a 54-year-old man from Iaşi County, after receiving medical attention at Vaslui Hospital, refused to be admitted, even though he had suffered broken ribs and trauma to the chest.

How the tragedy happened

Investigations by the traffic police into the establishment of the circumstances in which the accident occurred are far from complete. On Tuesday morning, law enforcement officers returned to the scene to conduct field inspections. No witnesses captured the moment of impact, the first cars arriving in the area a few minutes after the impact. If the young man who lost his little girl in the accident still has no recollection of the moment of impact, the Iaşi County man did not give the police too many details. He claimed that due to the darkness, he only saw the moment when the Hunday car, driven by the young man from Bârlad, approached him directly.

One of the hypotheses used by the researchers indicates that the young man from Bârlad was the one who produced the tragedy. He was heading in the direction of Vaslui towards Bârlad. At one point, probably due to excessive speed, it hit the protective part of a bridgehead, and from here a carnage would have started. He collided with the BMW car, which was coming from Bârlad towards Vaslui, which in an attempt to avoid it went out onto the field and then entered the third car. However, it is only a working hypothesis, the police and criminals take into account other circumstances that could have caused the accident.

The baby rescued from the seat
