Former coach Víctor Picurcă revealed that there were probes with teams from the Middle East, but did not reach any agreement. The 64-year-old coach regrets the conditions in which football matches take place in the context created by the pandemic, without supporters:
“I don’t have a project, we were in discussions through Golf, but now the championship is over, let’s see. They have another stage in Saudi Arabia, we’ll see. I don’t necessarily want to be in these conditions. From what I see now, it is no longer real football. You always have the feeling of watching friendly matches. Victor Pițurcă has coached only one golf team in his coaching career
Victor Pițurcă began his coaching career at Steaua in 1992, a team he prepared three more times. The coach was head of the University of Craiova three times and spent three terms on the bench of the Romanian national team, and between 1996 and 1998 he led the youth representative’s destinies.
His only coaching experience abroad was at Al-Ittihad Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Pițurcă prepared the Golf team in two terms, gathering 44 matches. He has three trophies to his credit, the experienced coach, a League 1 title, a Romanian Cup and a Super Cup, all won on the Steaua bench.
