After recently speaking of “red robber barons who manipulated the law to line their pockets, to the detriment of the Romanian people”, the US ambassador in Bucharest launches a new attack, this time frontally, against the PSD. Those who participated in and helped to deprive the Romanian people of the rule of law and who were prone to corruption will not have the support of the United States of America, the US ambassador in Bucharest said on Thursday.

In his speech, posted on the website of the diplomatic mission, he spoke about the importance of the rule of law and the situation in Romania.

“‘Trust’ is an important word! Enforcing the rule of law is essential for freedom and democracy! To restore respect for the rule of law, we cannot go back from the progress Romania has made in the last year! Previously government corruption, which materialized in the relaxation of the laws of justice just to help former PSD leader Liviu Dragnea and others avoid prison sentence, will not be accepted! They will not be backed by acts of corruption! ” said the ambassador, at the annual conference “Global challenges in the field of cybersecurity”, organized by CERT-RO.

He said that “the many advances made by the Orban government over the past year could easily be undermined.”

“The application of the rule of law is essential and takes priority in all our joint initiatives; let no one forget this! Many people outside, and unfortunately some inside, continue to try to undermine democracy and freedom of Romania, as well as the advances of the Romanian people. We will never consent to such a thing! “, Zuckerman emphasized.

Business is good

The Ambassador also spoke about the recent partnership commitments between Romania and the United States, including the roadmap for cooperation in the field of Defense, for the next 10 years, signed by Minister Nicolae Ciuca and his American counterpart.

The ambassador also recalled that, in the same period, two weeks ago, the initiation of an Intergovernmental Agreement was signed, which stipulates that the United States and Romania will cooperate to recondition a reactor and build another two reactors in Cernavoda.

The project, valued at approximately $ 8 billion, will include contributions from the United States, Canada, and France, as well as a significant amount of content from this project from Romania.

“The Cernavoda project is also a paradigm of future Romanian-American collaborations for the improvement and development of Romania’s infrastructure. This project is a fantastic example of the potential that Romania has to become a” source of energy “at the regional level, both for production and for export ”, said the ambassador.

The diplomat also mentioned the project to develop a highway and railways linking the Black Sea with the Baltic Sea, carried out in collaboration with Poland. According to the ambassador, the project “will continue the development of the Romanian economy and the countries of the region.”

Adrian Zuckerman said he was thinking about the two Romanian soldiers on a mission in Afghanistan, injured on Wednesday.

“I pray for his speedy recovery! I want to thank, once again, the brave men and women, members of the Romanian Armed Forces and the brave men and women of our army who fight side by side to defend democracy and freedom in the world”. said the diplomat.
