The only team to represent League 1 in the groups of a European competition, CFR Cluj, failed to match the performance of the previous season, when they qualified in the spring of the UEFA Europa League. FCSB, the highest ranked Liga 1 team in the UEFA coefficient ranking
Bayern Munich, current European champions, leads the hierarchy of UEFA coefficients, with 122,000 points, followed by Barcelona (116,000), Juventus (113,000), Real Madrid (112,000), and the top 5 is finished by Atlético de Madrid, with 110,000 points.
Although they have not reached the group stage in a European competition in the last three seasons, among Romanian teams, FCSB is the best in the ranking published by UEFA. The rojiblancos occupy position 69, with 21,000 points, tied with LASK and Feyenoord. Romanian champions CFR Cluj is ranked 96th with 16,500, the same number of points as Legia Warsaw.
Astra Giurgiu is ranked 142nd with 8,000 points, tied with six other teams, Slovan Liberec, CSKA Sofia, Zrinjski, Hajduk Split, Dudelange and Osmanlispor. FC Botoșani and the University of Craiova are not among the top 200 teams in Europe.
