Two Turkish Muslims in Vienna have become heroes for an old woman caught in the middle of a terrorist attack on the streets of Vienna. The men, experts in martial arts, helped her take refuge safely by making a shield around her. The youths also jumped to the aid of an injured policeman. Both said that “we are Muslims, but we reject any form of terror”.

According to Der Standard, the two were in the center of Vienna when the first shots were heard. The Albanian-born terrorist had already wounded a police officer, whom one of the young men immediately jumped to the rescue. However, the most shocking moment would have been the one in which another man made a shield for an old woman trapped in the street, in the midst of terror and whom he took refuge in a building protected from bullets.

The men are named Mikail Özen, 25, and Recep Tayyip Gültekin, 21, and their gestures have sparked a wave of praise on social media. One of them posted a video on Twitter in which he confessed to being a Turkish Muslim, but rejected any form of terror. “We are with Austria, with Vienna. We respect Austria,” wrote the cited source.

The other recounted how things were the night that Vienna was the target of an unprecedented terrorist attack, in which five people, four civilians, were killed and the attacker fired on by law enforcement.

“Of course there was fear. I was scared, but the idea of saving lives filled me with adrenaline. Fear makes you do things you wouldn’t do otherwise,” said one of the two. .

One of the men told how the attacker acted in Vienna

Osama Joda said, according to the Austrian press, that he saw the attacker even when he opened fire.

“He hid in a garage and shot passersby.” Osama was inside a fast food restaurant where he worked, and together with his manager they barricaded themselves inside. When he saw that the attacker wounded a policeman, he went out and took him aside to save his life. He tried to stop her bleeding until the ambulance arrived.

Vienna was the target of a terrorist attack that killed five people, including the Albanian-born attacker. He was 20 years old, born and raised in Vienna, but was a supporter of the Islamic State group and was in the Austrian police database. One of the law enforcement officers shot him shortly after he opened fire.
