Two COVID-19 hospitals in Bucharest, the Matei Balş Institute for Infectious Diseases and the Colentina Hospital, were left without heat or hot water on Friday, after Termoenergetica cut off the supply of thermal agent. The information was confirmed by representatives of the Ministry of Health.

UPDATE The manager of the Colentina Hospital, Víctor Cauni, affirmed that the patients are heated with air conditioners.

“This morning we were notified of the interruption after 9 a.m. until midnight when we hope to return. Hot water is not a luxury, but a necessity. We train with the technical department, we install heating appliances, boilers, so that the equipment that finish the work in the red zone can be decontaminated. In order not to overload the network, we use hot air conditioners for the patients, “said the manager of the Colentina Hospital, Víctor Cauni.

According to him, there have been other problems, not so long, but any damage of this kind does not benefit anyone.

“The management team provided in next year’s draft budget the installation of thermal power plants in each building,” to guarantee some independence, Cauni added.

For his part, Raed Arafat said the only long-term solution is to install thermal power plants.

“It is an unpredictable situation, you have to find solutions, which are only temporary. It is long term to have your own power plants, “said Arafat.

“I contacted the representatives of the Matei Balş Institute, who confirmed that they had received a notification from the Municipal Thermal Company informing them that today, between 09.00-24.00 hours, the supply of thermal agent (heat and hot water) will be interrupted. For some damage. The Colentina Hospital is in the same situation ”, specified the representatives of the Ministry of Health.

” At the Matei Balș Hospital, the heat stopped, there are patients seriously connected to oxygen, patients who are allowed to stay in the cold. Someone help you !!! They have been given pilots, but they are semi-conscious and do not notice when they are revealed! They were told it would take 2-3 days, they cannot be left in the cold! ”A young woman from Bucharest reported on her Facebook page on Friday.

The Matei Balș Institute of Infectious Diseases was the first hospital in Romania to treat COVID-19 patients, and the Colentina Hospital, located nearby, is a COVID support hospital.
