Journalist Val Vâlcu explained why Romania does not receive many more doses of influenza vaccine and how we got to the “crisis” in the pharmacies.
Double dose of vaccine was taken
“Vaccines against influenza have been bought twice as much as last year, it is a constant effort, but the problem is not that they did not want or thought of buying more doses of vaccine, but that more vaccines cannot be produced for Romania” stressed the journalist Val Vâlcu.
He explained: “There are more reasons why multiple doses of vaccine cannot be produced for Romania:
Lowest price policy
– It was the policy of the lowest price that was wrong, since all the political forces recognized in the DCNews debates that this policy is incorrect and results in: empty shelves in pharmacies, you will be forced, at some point, to you pay as much as all the savings together, it has led to the disappearance of hundreds of products in the Romanian market while no great savings have been made, because, in times of crisis, when buying abroad, due to lack of stock, to make a higher price several times. By having the lowest price policy, Romania has no priority, it fails to attract the private sector.
Production starts early
– The vaccine is scheduled two years in advance for its production. It is an organic product, it is not the same as bottling soft drinks. You cannot increase production, there are no facilities for that. Cell cultures are done, the virus replicates, it is a complicated quality control mechanism, all vaccines last.
Romanians refused vaccination. Risk, the key cause
– The Romanian population did not have a health education in the sense of prevention, the Romanian population was not vaccinated in a percentage that would allow to attract a greater number of vaccine doses. As a result, no additional production capacity was allocated to Romania. You cannot increase production as demand increases. It’s still a miracle that it reached four million doses when you had two. In no major state has it doubled, but, at last year’s level, they have enough flu vaccine.
That is why there is no flu vaccine in pharmacies. Because last year, two years ago, three years ago, Romanians were not vaccinated. This is the main cause, only the pricing policy ranks second.
A shame on everyone
Hundreds, if not millions, of unused doses remained in the H1N1 pandemic when the vaccine was imported and produced in the country. Risk is the third cause. You bring the vaccine and people don’t want it, as happened with HPV, which was a global shame, wanting the Government to subsidize the vaccine for 200,000 girls, to use 2,000. If the cancer vaccine, in the country with the highest incidence and mortality of cervical cancer, has been rejected, why come now and ask for a vaccine? Parents who turned down the HPV vaccine in 2008 shouldn’t now ask for a flu shot, to shut up. Don’t open your mouth now! They kept their mouths open for all the fake news in 2008 and when will childhood cancer not complain, after they rejected the vaccine because they read in the newspaper that it has side effects. The most dangerous side effect is stupidity, but look, no vaccine has been found for stupidity. Then they didn’t want to, now why am I asking for a flu shot? ”
