Donald Trump hardened his tone again on Thursday, facing China, threatening to sever any relationship with the Asian giant due to the way he handled the coronavirus crisis, writes AFP.
The US president has been accusing for several weeks that Covid-19’s harsh balance, nearly 300,000 deaths worldwide, could have been avoided if Beijing had acted responsibly for the virus in Wuhan.
In an interview with Fox Business on Thursday, he said he was “very disappointed” by Beijing’s attitude and rejected the idea of a direct discussion with his counterpart Xi Jinping to ease tensions.
“I have a very good relationship (with him) but I don’t want to speak to Xi Jinping right now,” Trump said.
When asked about the various retaliatory measures he could apply, Donald Trump, who in recent days mentioned the possibility of punitive customs tariffs, was more evasive and threatening.
“There are many things we can do. We can break any relationship,” he said.
“If we did, what would happen?” The President continued. “We would save $ 500 billion if we broke any relationship,” continued the Republican billionaire, for whom such threats are not uncommon.
“What happened to the world and to our country is very sad, all of these dead,” said Donald Trump.
