Donald Trump ordered a reduction in US military forces in Afghanistan and Iraq by mid-January, said Christopher Miller, acting defense secretary.
Christopher Miller has announced that the number of US troops in Afghanistan will be reduced from 4,500 to 2,500, and the number of troops in Iraq will be reduced from 3,000 to 2,500. The reduction will take place before January 15, 2021, the Pentagon chief said, according to The Hill and NBC News.
“We are not followers of perpetual war, it would be the opposite of what we affirm (…). We have accomplished the tasks, now is the time to go home,” argued Christopher Miller in a letter to the US Army, writes Mediafax.
Donald Trump had pleaded since the 2016 election campaign to withdraw US troops from areas of foreign operations and “stop the ridiculous wars without end.”
