Traian Berbeceanu was appointed prefect of the Capital. The government decision for which he was appointed, on a temporary basis, was published Thursday afternoon in the Official Gazette.
“Mr. Berbeceanu Traian holds, temporarily, in accordance with the law, the public office of prefect of Bucharest”, is reflected in the government’s decision.
Likewise, Gheorghe Cojanu was revoked, by decision of the Government, from the position of prefect of the Capital. Later he was appointed Government Inspector of the General Secretariat of Government.
Prime Minister Ludovic Orban announced Thursday who will change the current prefect of the Capital, Gheorghe Cojanu, after the controversial statements about the contagion rate in Bucharest, and one of the possible replacements is Traian Berbeceanu.
Berbeceanu is “a just, determined man” and has shown in his work that he achieves his goals, Orban said.
Orban explained why he did not immediately fire Cojanu.
„You ask me about the prefect of the Capital since Monday. I was unable to announce my decision to change prefect before a fundamental meeting chaired by the prefect of the Capital, CMSU, and since the decisions in the legislation had to be implemented. Today I can tell you: yes, I made the decision to change the prefect of the Capital. On Thursday, at the government meeting, we will make this change, “he said.
