The anti-COVID vaccination strategy in Romania will be approved on Thursday at the Supreme Council of National Defense. The coordinator of the vaccination campaign, Valeriu Gheorghiță, explained to Digi24 how this process will be carried out in Romania.
“What we want is a campaign that works without interruption and allows the vaccination of a large number of people in a certain period of time, so that sometime after mid-summer, towards the fall, we reach a number of 10 -15 million people. vaccinated, which would give us a percentage of 60-70% of the vaccinated population, which would be associated with a significant decrease in the transmission of the virus and a limitation of the pandemic. This creates the prospect of a return to conditions that are as safe as possible for normalcy, “said Valeriu Gheorghiță.
“We should receive at least 1 million doses in the first tranche. This ensures the vaccination of all people who work in the medical system, estimated at 500,000, to which is added what we have as social assistance personnel, 3,500 employees. We also have 15,000 residents in these centers, ”he added.
The European Medicines Agency has announced that the COIVD vaccine, developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, will receive the green light for sale no later than December 29. Only one company has applied for marketing authorization in the European Union for its vaccine, Moderna, which is awaiting a decision no later than January 12 of next year.
