The WHO Director-General promised on Monday that the agency he leads will do everything possible to find out the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which caused the COVID-19 pandemic, and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus rejected the accusations. China, reports AFP, cited by Agerpres.

“We want to know the origin and we will do everything possible to find out,” promised Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, whose agency hopes to send an international scientific team soon to the Chinese region of Wuhan, considered the birthplace of the pandemic.

“There is nothing to hide,” he said.

“The position of the WHO is very, very clear: we need to know the origin of this virus, because it can help us prevent future epidemics,” he said, highlighting that it was a “technical issue” and regretting that some have become “politicized” . a”.

The international team of a dozen scientists in various fields of expertise is on a mission to identify the origins of the virus and how it was transmitted to humans. The team has not yet been able to travel to China, where the new coronavirus was first detected in late 2019.

The WHO said last week that it hoped the international team, which conducts regular videoconferences with Chinese experts, “could be held as soon as possible” on the ground, but so far it has not moved once.

“The position of the WHO has been very clear. We will start studying from Wuhan and we will build on the results obtained to determine if there are other clues to explore, ”explained Tedros.

“We will not stop looking for the truth about the origin of the virus, but we will rely on science,” he said.
