The Union of Writers is delimited by the statements of Sorin Lavric, leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), who considers that gypsies are a “social plague” and “men do not look to women for intelligence, depth or lucidity “and announce” naturally “that Lavric will no longer be part of the organization.

The Romanian Writers’ Union leadership said on Tuesday, in a press release quoted by News.ro, that it took note “with astonishment” of the “radical political statements made by Sorin Lavric, a new parliamentarian” The democratic framework in which political life develops in our country. The respective opinions and attitudes represent the personal views of Sorin Lavric and in no way commit the Union of Writers of Romania. ”
  • We mention that, following his political involvement, Mr. Sorin Lavric’s contractual relationships with the Romanian Writers’ Union and the magazine “Literary Romania” end, naturally and necessarily. As a union of creators in the literary field, the Romanian Writers’ Union is a democratic institution, which brings together writers of all ethnic groups living in our country, whose rights they defend and promote. The union does not pursue a partisan policy, ”according to the statement.
  • “We reject any attempt to destroy the democratic framework and any attack on national or religious minorities, etc. and we condemn any form of discrimination. Therefore, we limit ourselves, as a guild, to the statements and political attitudes of Mr. Sorin Lavric, inviting him to reflect on its harmful implications for democracy and the atmosphere in public space, “said the Writers Union.

Who is Sorin Lavric?

Sorin Lavric is the president of the Senate of AUR – the surprise of the parliamentary elections – and he ran for a senator’s seat in Neamț, a county where AUR ranked third, after PSD and PNL, with 14.4% of the votes in the Senate and 13.8% in the Chamber of Deputies.

Lavric, 53, is a writer and doctor of philosophy. He is editor at “Romania literară” and director of programs and public relations at Writers’ Union.

Sorin Lavric wrote in the book “Decocto de una mujer”, published in 2019 by the Ideea Europeană publishing house, that “no man looks for intelligence, depth or lucidity in a woman”.

  • “No man looks for cunning, depth or lucidity in women. He who wants philosophy will not find it in the woman’s head, but will find immersion in the laborious atanor”;
  • “A thousand learned women gathered do nothing but fascinate one of those who has the privilege of being a nurse”;
  • “I am not an admirer of the fair sex. Admiration requires the ab initio recognition of a superior relationship: you admire someone you suspect is above you, while the woman may be the most desired, but in no way admired” ;
  • “There are three circumstances in which a woman’s vision culminates in disgust: when she takes her intimate bath, when she tries on clothes in the mirror and when she sits on the gynecological table.”
Mihai Iovănel writes that Lavric’s favorite metaphor seems to be that of the buffalo chilling in the mud:
  • “Beside her, the hot buffalo looking for fresh mud found their harbor”;
  • “It was a muddy dump waiting for the roar of the buffalo cohort”;
  • “Hot Buffaloes Found Fresh Mud Overflow”.

Sorin Lavric was born on November 27, 1967 in Turnu-Severin.
