DIICOT prosecutors sued three defendants, accused of falsifying and putting into circulation tens of thousands of 100 lei notes, known as “Super Leo”.

According to a DIICOT statement, the three defendants are accused of forming an organized criminal group, counterfeiting money, complicity in counterfeiting currency, placing counterfeit securities into circulation, possession of counterfeiting tools and fraud.

Prosecutors claim that between 2014 and June 24, 2020, The leader of the group, with the support of the rest of the partners, forged 23,042 100 lei notes, of which 22,716 were put into circulation, thus producing a total damage of 2,271,600 lei.

The leader of the criminal group had the role of coordinating the other members, getting involved in the acquisition / possession of materials and tools necessary for counterfeiting, in counterfeiting coins and putting them into circulation, thus deceiving several people.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that, in a relatively short period of time, the group leader managed to produce the best counterfeits in Romanian history and become the world’s largest plastic banknote counterfeiter.
