According to the Israeli army, two missiles were launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israel, one of which was intercepted by the Israeli anti-missile shield. The second rocket landed in the city of Ashdod, located between the Gaza Strip and Tel Aviv, according to local rescue services, which reported at least two minor injuries.
The shooting took place at a time when the ceremony to sign agreements to normalize relations between Israel and two Gulf countries, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, was taking place in Washington.

The Hamas group stepped up its incendiary balloon attacks in August and launched several missiles from the Gaza Strip into Israel. It responded in particular with night air strikes against the positions of this group. However, the two camps signed an agreement in early September, thanks to mediation by Qatar, in order to end hostilities and restore a fragile armistice in force for about a year and a half.
Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, and Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority in power in the occupied West Bank have criticized agreements to normalize relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
The two entities called demonstrations in the Palestinian territories to denounce the agreements. But only a few hundred people participated in the protests, according to AFP journalists, cited by Agerpres.
