The UK will start vaccination campaigns against COVID-19 next week, on December 8, announced the executive director of the NHS National Health Service Chris Hopson, reports Agerpres.

Then the first doses of vaccine will arrive in the country, he said in an interview for the BBC.

It is the largest vaccination campaign in the history of Britain, according to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The first 800,000 doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in the UK next week, with another million doses arriving in the UK by the end of 2020.

BioNTech and Pfizer announced Wednesday that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the two companies has been approved for emergency use in the UK.

The vaccine will be given first to people who live or work in nursing homes, people over the age of 80, and medical personnel at high risk of infection.

The Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine will be administered for the first time in 50 “clinical centers” across the country due to the challenges posed by logistical activities and storage conditions for the vaccine at temperatures below minus 70 degrees Celsius.

The United Kingdom was the first country to approve the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, which is currently licensed in the United States and the European Union.
