The leader of the Corduneni clan, Costel Corduneanu, was released on parole the other day from Târgu Mureș Penitentiary, where he was imprisoned for several months. He spoke about his time behind bars and his intentions for the future.
Corduneanu said that during the period in which he was imprisoned, he had to stay in the cell for most of the day because his health condition did not allow him to participate in activities. However, Costel Corduneanu said, he is not complaining, although it was not easy for him.
“I was released from prison where I remained in the cell for 23 hours. My health did not allow me to go out to activities anymore. It was a difficult time. Prison is not easy. For those who are weak as an angel or for those who enter without recommendation, it is very difficult ”, said Costel Corduneanu.
He said that he did not have a privileged status in prison, but that he had the respect of the guards and his cellmates. At the same time, the underworld leader affirms that the conditions in the prisons must be improved because they are very difficult.
“I had the same status as my cellmates. However, both they and the guards respected me. I have nothing to say. Prison conditions should be changed, but I don’t want to say more. Still, it’s tough in jail.” Corduneanu also said.
At age 50, the thief stated that he no longer wants to go back to prison and, therefore, intends to change and take better care of his family.
“I am not an aggressive man, I have not killed anyone, I have never sought scandal. If someone comes up to me and hits me on the head, I have to defend myself. That’s why I say I don’t want to go to jail, but you never know what it will be, ”Costel Corduneanu also said, according to BZI.ro.
He is considered just an older brother.
Furthermore, the head of the Corduneni claims that he is not an underworld nor is he a clan leader, but only an older brother, the head of the family.
“I am not a thief, I have no clan or anything else. I am a former athlete, a champion who represented Romania all over the world. I was the older brother, I took care of my family and taught him what I thought was right. Each of my brothers did what they saw fit. I cannot be held responsible for their actions, “he said.
Corduneanu wanted to emphasize that the group whose leader is is not a mafia-like organization and no clan and family that will react only when provoked.
“We are not a clan, we are a family. We did not kill anyone. We really reacted when they challenged us, but that’s all. We did our job. We are not the problem, the mafia is elsewhere. That we are prisoners? Now they have mayors in jail, doctors, etc. Things have changed ”, said Costel Corduneanu.
