“We did everything we could, he received all the treatments, we did not miss anything. We managed to keep him conscious for five days. Upon admission he is still breathing alone, but with a very high need for oxygen. I connected him to a ventilator the first night, which He put air pressure in a mask that helped him breathe. But we had to intubate him, that’s exactly what we would not have wanted, because we know that if we intubate him the chances of survival will be very small, “said the members of the Hospital’s medical team. Neurosurgery, who had it, treated the young man.

“There was a so-called cytokine storm”

The young man spent five days with an oxygen mask that covered his entire face, while he received all the treatments offered by the doctors. They say that, although he had no major comorbidities, they classified him as grade I obesity, overweight, and since the summer of this year he was taking a series of drugs to control third-degree hypertension.

“Many of us are healthy and our lives are not affected, even though we are overweight or borderline and have higher blood pressure. He was not really healthy, he had these two problems, but his immune system responded very aggressively to this virus, it was a so-called cytokine storm, a series of inflammatory markers appear that cause a chain reaction ”, the doctors explained.

Doctors say that if they were able to intervene before the lung disease was so severe, there was a chance that the prognosis was not extremely guarded.

In fact, all the cases of young people admitted to Intensive Care at the Neurosurgery Hospital, which has 20 beds only for COVID-19 patients, were critical and ended with the loss of patients.
