Mircea Covătaru was 74 years old and, according to djstneamt.ro, his name is related to the beginnings of the wrestling section of the Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ Sports Club. In 1977, he was the department’s first coach to produce valuable athletes over time.
Mircea Covătaru started fighting in Rădăuţi in 1963, and a year later he became a junior national champion. He also fought for Farul Constanza and Dinamo Bucharest, and for seven years he was part of Romania’s senior team.
Mihai Cişmaş is a name “produced” by Mircea Covătaru and that in 1981 brought to Romania and the Ceahlăul club the bronze medal of the youth Europeans. Later, the same athlete, but legitimized in another club, managed to win medals in seniors, a silver in the Europeans, but also a silver and a bronze in the world championships, occupying a fifth place in the 1984 Olympic Games.
Covătaru was coach of the national teams from 1980 to 1988, and between 2016 and 2019 he was coach of CS Ceahlăul.
Ten patients died
following a fire that broke out on Saturday in the Intensive Care Unit of Piatra Neamţ County Hospital. Seven other people, including doctor Ioan Cătălin Denciu, who tried to save the sick, were injured.
