Officially, the state of alert in Romania, established after the emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic, was extended by a month. At the same time, restrictions were tightened.

As a result, we cannot leave the house after 10pm on Sunday without a well founded reason, mentioned in the declaration at our own risk, that we must have with us. By default, the terrace program is shortened by one hour.

Going to work or the hospital, buying medicine, taking care of a child or the death of a family member are the only good reasons why we can drive on the street between 10 at night and 5 in the morning. For this, however, we need a statement at our own risk, which can be downloaded from the website. Stirioficiale.ro, made available by the authorities. Those who are caught on the street without a declaration on their own responsibility can be fined 500 to 2,500 lei.

girl: “It just came to our notice then. Anyway, I didn’t go out at night. So what is 22 for me, what is my 23? That’s it.”

Men: “We have a program that I work on. At 20 we left. At 21 we are home. So it wouldn’t be a problem.”

Men: “It’s probably a measure.”

Woman: “It’s fine for us, it’s not a problem. It’s very good that it happened, because the children don’t realize the danger and go out.”

The new measures also shorten the hours of terraces and restaurants, which will close at 10 pm.

Marian Dedu, manager of a restaurant in the Old Center: “When the client leaves the house for dinner, they want to stay a lot longer, and since the program has been shortened by an hour, they think twice before doing this.”

Those in the hotel industry estimate a loss of around 200 customers per night, in the case of each restaurant.

Dragoș Petrescu, HORA Association: “It seriously affects dinner in a proportion of around 50 percent. That is, customers no longer get stressed, since they have to leave the restaurant around 9:30 p.m., so as not to exceed the traffic time limit until they get home “.

Across the country, more than 6,500 police officers and 4,000 gendarmes will patrol the streets and stand ready to intervene if they find any violations. However, the presence of the forces of order will be greater in areas with many cases of disease, in the red scenario, such as, at this time, for example, the capital and the counties of Ilfov, Brasov, Cluj, Hunedoara, Salaj and Timis.

Sorin Despina, spokesman for the Romanian Gendarmerie: “We will go at 9:30 and we will make recommendations for them to leave the terrace and restaurant areas so as not to break the rules, but for those who do not follow this rule, sanctions will surely be applied.”

On Saturday night, police in the capital discovered more than 100 people illegally partying, crowded into a house, and fined them more than 226,000 lei. Another 53 people who participated in a private event, in a cafe, were fined a total of more than 50,000 lei.
