- More than 3.6 million older people live in Romania, representing 18.5% of the total population.
- The number of hotel accommodations in Romania is 199,900, according to data from July 2019
In the Streinu-Cercel project, the concrete proposal is “isolation in the home for the next 12 weeks, regardless of the name of the home (own house, relocation to a vacant house or institutionalized relocation), supporting these people, strictly respecting the measures of social distancing, throughout this duration “.
It is not clear from the currently available data how many of the 3.6 million older people live alone, how many live with their families in the same household, and how many are institutionalized in nursing homes or care facilities.
The Streinu-Cercel plan includes that the elderly who do not have their own home or rent are institutionalized through the requisition of hotels. However, the number of available accommodation is too small.
According to the data published by the Profit.ro website existing until July 31, 2019, in Romania there are 356,600 tourist accommodation places, as follows:
- 199,900 hotel beds
- 49,100 places in agrotourism pensions
- 35,200 places in tourist pensions
- 16,700 places in tourist villas
- 13,7000 places in hostels
