This is also the case for Ion “Liță” Dumitru, one of the best footballers Romania has ever had. Declared the best player in Romania in 1973 and 1975, he gathered 57 teams for the national team and also has 12 goals. He has five trophies earned with Steaua. Two titles and three Romanian Cups.

But the start of the coronavirus pandemic, which hit the United States very hard, turned all plans for Liță Dumitru upside down. Without the possibility of working at the Academy, the former Romanian great international was forced to seek other sources of income. So, at the age of 70, he chose to deliver food to the US through Uber Eats. It is not easy at all, especially since he does not know English very well. But he proves once again that he is a true fighter.
“We are fine, my daughter is in school in the seventh grade, we are both at work, my wife and I. Apart from what I do, I gave private soccer lessons with Romanian and American children, but due to the pandemic I decided not go to football anymore, because it is not allowed. I have a new car, I go to Uber Eats in the morning, I get food from the restaurant and I leave it to people. I can drive. I’m older and I don’t know English, if I only knew I could do something else, but for now I like it. When football starts, I’ll go to football “, explained the former Digi Sport soccer great.

Liță Dumitru has an absolutely incredible life story. There were many difficulties that he had to face, but each time he stood up. After leaving football, I really wanted to have a child. But the doctors told him that his wife could not get pregnant. Through prayer, the two hoped that they could eventually become parents. And the miracle happened when Liță Dumitru was 58 years old. His wife gave birth to a girl.
He was, for a time, the happiest man in the world. But in 2015 it was put to the test again. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent emergency surgery in Germany. Fortunately, he made a full recovery and managed to overcome the illness. Then he recognized that only the desire to see his daughter grow kept him alive:
“After surgery in Germany, I went home. God helped me. All I’ve been doing lately is God gave me a baby. My wife was not pregnant, but she went to church. God gave birth to my son. .
