The highway company has put out to tender the largest contract for an infrastructure work, with an estimated cost of 1,100 to 1,200 million euros. The announcement of lot 3 of the Sibiu-Pitești highway, the one that connects Cornetu and Tigveni, with a length of 37.4 km, was published in SEAP.

There is another premiere: it will be the first mountain road launched in Romania. The project includes a 1.7 kilometer tunnel, 48 bridges and highway viaducts, an ecoduct and numerous landscaping works. The tender notice foresees a design duration of between 45 months and 77 months.

The procedure includes two stages: there will be a pre-selection of builders, who must demonstrate that they have knowledge and experience in such complicated works, especially tunnels and viaducts. Under the procedure, points are awarded when the manufacturer offers a shorter duration, but a design period of less than 12 months is accepted and a total period of less than 45 months is not accepted.

Preliminary offers will be submitted before November 10 and a month later, CNAIR expects to have final offers from those selected.

Recently, the European Commission approved financing of 875.5 million euros for the Sibiu-Pitești motorway from the cohesion fund. It would be enough years to cover the construction of lots 1, 4 and 5, of which four have not yet been commissioned. The heaviest segments, 2 and 3, could together cost more than 1.8 billion euros. They are also the longest, of more than 30 kilometers each, and the most difficult, with a mountain profile.
