Costel Alexe, president of the Iaşi Provincial Council, a subordinate institution to which the Hospital for Infectious Diseases is located, reacted in the case of the final prison sentence with the suspension of the director of the medical unit, Carmen Dorobăț. Alexe does not explicitly say that he will replace Dorobăț, but states that his role is to “protect the integrity” of the institution that directs and manages the COVID crisis with “professional and honest management at the same time.”
- “With respect to the conviction of Dr. Carmen Dorobăț, my role is not to rule on a judicial decision. I respect the decision of the magistrates.
- But it is my role to protect the integrity of the institution that I direct, out of respect for its employees, partners and collaborators and, of course, out of respect for its citizens. It is natural to make sure that in the City Council and in the subordinate institutions we have correction milestones and that we work in good faith for the community, ”wrote Costel Alexe on Facebook.
He also ensures that his priority continues to be the proper functioning of the mobile hospital and the “optimal management” of the crisis situation generated by the pandemic, “with professional and honest management.”
- “We will still have to find the best solution for the Iasi Infectious Diseases Hospital and Lețcani Mobile Hospital,” Alexe adds.
Carmen Dorobăț has been at the forefront since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in Romania, entering daily on television stations to talk about the situation of coronavirus cases.
Contacted by journalists, Dorobăț declined to clarify his possible resignation from the hospital’s management. Instead, he issued a short statement: “I have taken note of the court’s decision, of course, with sadness. With the same sincerity I will be available to patients as before, with the same implication in these times of pandemic.”
