Gelu Pecheanu, former mayor of the Drânceni commune, Vaslui county, managed the “performance” of involving both his son and daughter-in-law in criminal matters. A few days ago, the former mayor was sentenced by the Huşi District Court to two years in prison with suspension for having committed the crime of using the function on behalf of a person.
He was forced to follow a supervision program for three years, during which time he will have to do 60 days of unpaid work at the town hall or at the village school.
His son, Bogdan, was sentenced to one year in prison with suspension, also under surveillance, for complicity.
Gelu Pecheanu, mayor of the Drânceni commune since 2008, was accused of entering into a concession contract with his son’s individual company, through which he concessioned 75.22 ha of pasture land to the private domain of the commune, with 25 lei / ha. annual.
For the land area, the mayor’s son received grants of 94,000 lei from APIA. Prosecutors claimed that the company was in the hands of the mayor.
Before the judges, the mayor defended himself stating that there was a decision of the city council and that he could not oppose this decision. His defenses did not convince either the judges or the electorate of the commune. As he no longer had the right to run, Pecheanu, appointed administrator of the commune, after being dismissed and de facto in charge of the institution, convinced his son to run for mayor.
He also convinced his PSD colleagues to support his son, although he was a defendant and was about to receive his sentence. In addition to the case in which he was charged with his son, Gelu Pecheanu is also being tried in a case with his daughter-in-law, whom he allegedly hired in a project with European funds, the locals were no longer easy to convince. to give them the vote, so the son lost the election.
During the election campaign, Gelu Pecheanu was at the center of another major scandal, being accused of stealing the church’s toaca, after discovering that his name is written on it.
Faced with the fact, he admitted that the church robe was in his town hall office, but claimed that it had been brought to him by the workers who worked in the church. Subsequently, Pecheanu turned the case over to the Church, based on a report. Before the elections, he said that despite the superstition that the name written on the sleeve is followed by bad luck, in his case things would have been the other way around.
