The government approved the vaccination strategy against the new coronavirus at the meeting on Friday night, the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Ionel Dancă, announced on Saturday. The government decision establishes which are the priority categories for vaccination: employees in the field of Health, social assistance, those in the risk category and personnel in “key areas”.

The normative act prepares the vaccination campaign that will begin once a vaccine is available.

“In accordance with this adopted vaccination strategy, priority groups have been established: health personnel, personnel of residential and medical and social centers, population at high risk of severe evolution in case of SARS-CoV-2 infections and personnel in other key fields, essential for the smooth running of the company, ”said Ionel Dancă, according to Agerpres.

People in these categories will be vaccinated in the first stage and then the vaccination will be available to the rest of the population.

“The estimate is that currently 70% of the total population could participate in this vaccination campaign,” said Dancă.

He also stressed that vaccination is “free and voluntary.”

The government asks for support for the vaccination campaign.

“The Romanian Government (…) calls on all the institutions involved, but also civil society, specialists, to support this vaccination campaign in the public debate because it is the only remedy to end the COVID-epidemic. 19. We must avoid politicization on this issue, because the life and health of Romanians are at stake and in this vaccination campaign we summon all specialists in the field, ”the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said.
