Be careful where and how you choose your vacation accommodation! There are criminals who publish offers on the Internet, with false images and information, to attract tourists to accommodations that do not exist. This is what happened to a woman from Timișoara, who wanted to spend New Year’s Eve in the Prahova Valley, without resorting to a specialized agency. The reservation in Bușteni cost the injured woman 4,000 lei. He liked a villa presented on the Internet and contacted the author of the advertisement.
“We moved our discussion on WhatsApp, where the man sent me a proforma, saying that the villa cost 4,000 lei at that time and that he had to pay an advance of 1,800 lei, then the rest until December 15. The next day I sent her the advance and two days later the difference, the amount of 2,200 lei, ”said the injured woman.
After the money was transferred to the bank account, the man who posted the ad did not answer the phone.
The Digi24 reporter went to Busteni to search for the villa in the advertisement, but found that it was not found. Also, in the meantime, all the related data has been removed from the internet.
The invoice sent to the woman shows the name of a company used by the scammer.
There is the company mentioned in the proforma. Their representatives have a restaurant and a guest house, but both are in Predeal.
The injured woman says she filed a complaint online with the Romanian police and then went to the local police.
However, it seems that Timisoara’s wife is not the only victim of this scammer. Representatives for Predeal’s company say five other victims contacted them for an explanation.
