The former president of the Chamber of Deputies, Bogdan Olteanu, was definitively sentenced to 5 years in prison, for a bribe of one million euros. The sentence, with execution, came on his birthday.
Olteanu, who turns 49 today, has already appeared at the headquarters of the IPJ Dâmbovița, where the procedures for incarceration are being carried out.
Bogdan Olteanu, who was also deputy governor of the National Bank of Romania, was charged with corruption. In the first instance, he was sentenced to 7 years in prison in this case.
He was accused of receiving 1 million euros of bribe of the businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vântu, 12 years ago. What was at stake was the appointment of Liviu Mihaiu as governor of the Danube Delta and Olteanu would have intervened with members of the Government, according to DNA.
According to the decision of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, Bogdan Olteanu will have the amount of 1 million euros confiscated.
On September 18, 2008, Liviu Mihai was appointed Governor of the Danube Delta.
“In accordance with art. 421 point 2 letter a of the Code of Criminal Procedure, admits the appeal declared by the defendant OLTEANU BOGDAN against Criminal Sentence No. 1960 of December 24, 2019, delivered by the Bucharest Court – Criminal Section I, in file No. 20082 / 3/2017 The appealed criminal sentence is repealed, in part, and basically re-judges: It reduces the main penalty applied to the accused OLTEANU BOGDAN for the crime of trafficking of influences, prior to article 291 paragraph 1 of the Penal Code rap. to article 6 of Law n ° 78/2000 with the application of article 5 of the Penal Code, from 7 years in prison to 5 years in prison, maintaining the penalties complementary and accessories that are applied to the same defendant by the appealed sentence.
In accordance with article 424 paragraph 3 of the Rap Criminal Procedure Code. In article 72 of the Penal Code, the period of detention, preventive detention and house arrest, from 29.07.2016 to 20.10.2016, inclusive, is deducted from the main penalty of 5 years in prison applied to the accused.
