The Cîţu government proposed in the government program to unblock gas development projects in the Black Sea, and with the money from royalties to balance the national pension system.
The exploitation of gas from the Black Sea, an extremely controversial project, is now based on a law passed by the Government of Dăncilă, which the Exxon-Petrom consortium considers unfavorable, which has postponed the start of exploitation.
On the other hand, the Black Sea Oil and Gas project, in which a US investment fund participates, began its exploitation on the basis that at some point the legislation will be changed.
In the government program presented to Parliament for the investiture vote, the Government undertakes to expand the gas transmission and distribution networks.
Although Romania has natural gas and commercial gas reserves, only half of the households have access to the network. This is a vulnerable point in Romania and that is why Black Sea investors prefer to export gas to Hungary and Austria, claiming that they have no one to sell in the country.
All governments have promised to expand the gas network, but progress year after year is almost nil.
The national pension system is quite unbalanced and promises to increase pensions cannot be met by the current activity of the economy and the state’s ability to earn revenue from taxes and fees.
