The monoclonal antibody is a first step on the road to developing a treatment for Covid-19, according to an article published in the journal Nature Communications and cited by EFE.
Scientists now hope to develop human antibodies in an attempt to prevent respiratory infection caused by SARS-CoV-2.
“This research is the continuation of a study conducted in previous years with antibodies directed against SARS-CoV infection, which appeared in 2002/2003. Using this collection of antibodies against SARS-CoV, we identified one that neutralizes crop infection with “This neutralizing antibody has the ability to alter the course of infection in the infected host, support virus clearance, or protect a person exposed to the virus from infection,” said Berend-Jan Bosch, a researcher at the University of Utrecht.
According to the article in the journal Nature, conventional therapeutic antibodies are first developed in other species and then undergo additional special treatment so that they can be “transferred” to humans.
