Jens Geier MEP, leader of the German S&D delegation in the European Parliament, is the first socialist in Europe to respond to Marcel Ciolacu’s letter to embassies and other European leaders asking them to send a message forcing Klaus Iohannis to appoint a first of the PSD.
In response to the PSD leader’s letter, Geier asserts that the president’s “systematic attacks” on the PSD “have no place in a European democracy.”
It is unacceptable to refer to the Romanian Social Democrats with the expression “red plague”. The PSD won the elections and has almost 34% of the seats in Parliament, which is why a Social Democratic prime minister must be nominated to try to form a majority ”, the socialist leader transmitted from Germany.
It says that “any other action” places Romania alongside Hungary and Poland.
“Any other action means violating democratic practices in Europe and European values, which could place Romania alongside conservative governments in Hungary and Poland,” says Jens Geier.
Last week, PSD President Marcel Ciolacu sent letters to embassies and left-wing political leaders in Europe, complaining that President Klaus Iohannis did not want to appoint a PSD prime minister and asking for public support.
