The first doses of the Covid vaccine produced by Pfizer, filmed in Belgium. What important leap is yet to be passed and when could the serum reach Romania?

“It was great to see the first bottle on the production line.” That’s what Pfizer CEO Ben Osborn said. The Daily Mail today published the first images with dozens of doses of vaccine on a conveyor belt at a Pfizer factory in Belgium. The heads of the pharmaceutical company say that this is the Covid vaccine. But there is one more step until the serum is commercialized, because Pfizer, which is working with the German company BioNTech on this vaccine, has not yet completed an advanced clinical study in 44,000 people. Here’s what infectious disease doctor Andreea Moldovan says:

Dr. Andreea Moldovan, Medical Director of the Hospital for Infectious Diseases of Brasov: Data on the usefulness of this vaccine are not yet available, and it is normal that it is not available, because it is too early, and we as the medical community fear that the effectiveness of this vaccine is limited in time. That is why these tests are being carried out, precisely to tell us where we are in terms of safety and efficacy of this vaccine.

The American giant will launch this year 100 million doses of vaccine, of which 40 million are for the United Kingdom. Each person who receives the vaccine will need two doses. Pfizer expects to obtain emergency authorization for this vaccine in November.

Dragos Damian, CEO of Cluj Therapy: If we talk about these doses, it means that we are already talking about transposition on an industrial scale. That means there are large series, millions of vaccines will be needed. Hopefully the relevant authorities will give their consent and sometime early next year we will start having the first doses, not just from this company but from several companies. There are about 20 vaccines under study.

The experts of the European Commission have already had the first discussions with the representatives of Pfizer BioNtech but also with 6 other pharmaceutical companies, to acquire this vaccine. In this way, the vaccine will reach all of Europe, including those with low incomes.
