The doctor injured in the fire at the Piatra Neamţ County Hospital was transferred to Bucharest during the night from Saturday to Sunday and must be prepared, at the Floreasca Emergency Hospital, to be transferred, on Monday morning, to a medical unit in Belgium.

“The military plane provided by the Ministry of National Defense landed in Bucharest with the doctor, who will be transferred to the Floreasca Hospital and will be prepared for transfer to the Regina Astrid Military Hospital in Belgium. We can, during this morning, after 7 o’clock, ensure the transport, also with a military plane provided by the Ministry of Defense of the hero doctor. I wish him health, strength and I pray that he can overcome this crucial moment, “said Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, at the end of the meeting of the crisis cell of the Interior Ministry.

He also explained why the authorities opted for the solution of transferring the doctor from Piatra Neamţ to Iaşi, then to Bucharest, so that he could then be transported to Belgium:

“In night conditions, without a heliport, it was not possible to travel by helicopter and pick up the patient by helicopter. The solution was chosen to fly in the safest way possible (…) to the Iasi airport, from there he was transferred to Bucharest by military plane accompanied by a SMURD team that evaluates and monitors his health. . At the Floreasca hospital there is a team ready (…) to evaluate him, to prepare him for the trip. Hospitalization at the Regina Astrid Military Hospital in Belgium cannot be done overnight, when we want to. Hospitalization is based on the request that is made after a certain period of time because the place where you will be hospitalized must be prepared. (…) It was not easy at all to obtain an agreement to be able to hospitalize the patient in the Belgian military hospital, ”added the prime minister.

The fire that broke out Saturday afternoon in an intensive care unit at Piatra Neamț County Hospital left 10 dead and 10 injured, including 7 in serious condition: six are intensive care patients who were in an adjoining room, and the seventh is the doctor on duty who faced the flames in an attempt to save the patients. He has burns to 40 percent of his body surface and grade IV burns to his extremities.

What we have now are patients with SARS-CoV-2, as well as other patients from the country, who were transferred to intensive care in Leţcani,” Arafat said at the end. of the emergency meeting at the Ministry of the Interior.

When asked if there were any doctors injured in the fire, besides the one who would be transferred to Belgium, Raed Arafat replied that he was the only one.

“There is only one doctor who was brought here. There is, if I’m not mistaken, a nurse or maybe two who are with burns, but with a small area, that does not require transfer, to the lower extremities. They will be treated in good condition wherever they are. ”Said Raed Arafat, quoted by Agerpres.
