“I was identified as a contact for a person who tested positive for # COVID19. I am fine and without symptoms, but I will remain in self-isolation for the next few days, according to WHO protocols and will work from home,” Tedros said in a tweet.

Tedros highlighted on Twitter that “it is of the utmost importance that we all follow the health instructions.”

“This is how we will break the chains of transmission of COVID19, suppress the virus and protect health systems,” he added.

Tedros’s comments came as several European nations, including Switzerland, where the WHO is based, reinstated quarantine measures to halt the surge in cases and deaths.

Geneva declared a new state of emergency on Sunday and said it would close all nonessential bars, restaurants and shops.

COVID-19 has killed nearly 1.2 million people and infected more than 46 million people worldwide since it was first detected in China late last year.
